Catamenial Allergy

Patient named Meera had come to the hospital with symptoms of sudden allergic reaction just before her periods .
Allergic reaction included hives all over body , swelling over lips with maintaining a regular diet and no usage of any new cosmetics or food items.
Patient was advised for a full body checkup and her reports turned out to be normal .A reference was given to our allergologist from Expert Allergy and she was diagnosed with high progesterone induced catamennial allergy .
Catamenial allergy is one of the rare allergic diseases .This catamenial allergy was a combination of severe dust mite allergy and increased progesterone levels.
Patient was treated for housedust mite allergy with immunotherapy and she was started on oral contraceptives and on antiallergic medications before and during her periods .Patient did not develop any allergic reactions or angioedema post the treatment.
