Peanut Allergy - A Potential Catastrophe

A 7 year old boy on a family trip went to a roadside eatery and had idli ,chutney and sambar .Immediately post consumption child developed rashes all over body .
Parents took the child immediately to a nearby emergency and he was given emergency medications .(antiallergics and steroids ).Child stabilized and was sent home without admission

A consultation was sought with our allergologist at EXPERT ALLERGY and child was evaluated for allergies .On history taking ,childs mother gave a history of avoidance of nuts in diet as the child wasn’t keen on eating them .
Serum specific Ige to nut panel showed confirmed nut allergy .The child as he avoided eating nuts , luckily avoided allergic reactions till this episode .
Parents of the child were given strict instructions to avoid nuts in the childs diet and the child is doing well till date .
